spotted nyonya porcelain vessel

singaporean design studio hans tan studio has developed 'spotted nyonya', an industrial re-interpretation of the nyonya porcelain vessels which are traditional domestic wares native to chinese-peranakans in south asia. produced in collaboration with singaporean creative agency FARM, this contemporary take on the traditional objects transforms the original multicolored surface treatment into a new dotted pattern. the limited edition series of vessels utilizes the resist-dyeing technique that is often applied to dye fabric patterns. hans tan masks the porcelain pieces with the new dotted motif, which is then sandblasted, so that the areas protected are preserved, while the original glazed sections of the exposed areas are erased, revealing the white porcelain which lies beneath.

Mini Rocketman concept

BMW re-developed mini as per Geneva Autoshow

with the premiere of its 'rocketman' concept at geneva motor show 2011, BMW MINI has designed the smallest vehicle the brand has produced since 1959.

measuring just under eleven feet in length, the three-door vehicle features three seats, with a fourth optional to add to the rear. the trunk capacity is likewise flexible, and accessible through a design that splits the cars tailgate into two parts: a top segment attached to the roof that lifts upwards, and a lower component which extends outwards from the body like a drawer. the car's doors are double-hinged, sliding forward and out in addition to swinging open, to provide easy entry and exit even in close quarters.

NON-sign II

PENCIL? now that i amazed by this project by Leadpencilstudio.

‘non-sign II’ is an art created by Leadpencilstudio Seattle based art collective lead pencil studio located at the Canada-US border.

the sculpture is made from small stainless steel rods that are assembled together to create the negative space of a billboard. while most billboards draw attention away from the landscape ‘non-sign II’ frames the landscape, focusing attention back on it.

'bubbletecture'

Im amazed by a design for kindergarten. Out of ordinary, the design seems adaptable to the children's amazed to the bubble... and they are called 'bubbletecture'

These are some information i get from designboom:

'bubbletecture M' shuhei endo architect institute
all images © shuhei endo architect institute

'bubbletecture M' is a kindergarten designed by japanese studio shuhei endo architect
institute. located in shiga, japan the maihara kindergarten is surrounded by a newly
developed residential area. the structure consists of concrete boxes between each of
the rooms and a wooden roof that ties them together. the shell-form roof is made of
triangular continuous surfaces; its structural strength and geometrical consistency
permits great freedom in designing of the necessary spaces. this structural system uses
2.5 meters wooden beams and hexagonal metal fittings, factory-made and only assembled
on the site. the integration of the wooden trusses and concrete boxes is geometrical but
varied, a structure with rich in expressive effects.

'open space allows children to play freely. the ambiguity of it actually stimulates their
imaginations. they can explore their feelings without restraint. architects should not
create inflexible spaces that children cannot change.'
